Elkwater Endurance Camp was meant to challenge skaters, both physically and mentally, as well as create a stronger bond between teammates. Physical training focused primarily on speed and endurance development.
On the bike, the athletes cycled 9.5 to 10 hours, covering about 250 kilometres of hilly terraine. Five dryland sessions were held, emphasizing recovery and flexibility, core and hip development, and general strength and technical development through the use of cables and thera-bands. Athletes training for the 2011 Canada Winter Games also participated in a second round of fitness training.
Aside from training, athletes enjoyed bon fires and free time to socialize and have fun. High Performance Coach Bryan McSorley, who organized the camp, became a prime target in a friendly game of circle dodge ball. Special thanks to Sandra Nase, Larry Fast and Aaron Phoenix for their tremendous help in every aspect of the camp.
