Outreach and Promotions
Saskatchewan Speed Skating Association is focused on promoting public awareness of the benefits and positive attributes of speed skating, as well as enhancing the profile of the sport throughout the province. To this end, our role is to inspire a greater sense of community, cooperation and mutual support among our clubs, so we can tap into each other’s wealth of knowledge, expertise and experience.
Outreach is our forum for sharing ideas, tips and best practices in the areas of membership development and recruitment, media relations and event planning. It's intended to assist club membership and promotions coordinators to more effectively reach out to community and attract new members.
In this area, you will find a variety of resources, such as posters, brochures, templates for new releases and media advisories, as well as tips on event planning and best practices for recruiting new members. It's still very much a work in progress, but we hope you find this area useful in planning and promoting your events.
Some of the more high-profile events already on our calendar for the 2009-2010 season include:
- Olympic Torch Relay events will be held in Regina, Jan. 9; Moose Jaw, Jan. 10; Saskatoon, Jan. 11 and Prince Albert, Jan 11, 2010. (Evening).
- Canada Cup II Junior Long Track Trials, Saskatoon, Jan. 29-31.
- The Vancouver-Whistler Winter Olympics in 2010, Feb. 12-28, will feature some of the best speed skating events held to date and extensive media coverage will most definitely enhance the image of the sport.
- Saskatchewan Winter Games, Moose Jaw, Feb. 14-20, 2010 represents another opportunity to engage local and provincial media, as well as generate public awareness of speed skating.
So we encourage you to explore Outreach and if you have any questions or comments, please contact Trevor Sutter, Outreach and Membership Development Coordinator.
